Be patient. You may not feel like youre advancing at all with your guitar playing, but the truth is, you are starting out where everyone started out. If you stop being so hard on your playing, youll discover that you arent the only beginner you know. Take it easy and youll get better.

It is not easy to learn to play the guitar. Therefore, it is very important to stay motivated. One way to stay motivated is by setting short-term goals which wont to take that long to achieve. Finding a guitar buddy with whom to practice is also a good motivational tool. Staying motivated is key to not giving up.

Take your time learning basic guitar playing skills and build on them slowly. Practicing even the simplest skills until they are perfected. Learn how to read music, be able to identify and play each chord and know how to tune your guitar. Initially, try to concentrate on learning notes and scales.

Play along with a CD, another guitarist or use a metronome. This will help you learn to play in time. When players first start learning to play the guitar, they often pause slightly to arrange their fingers properly. This will throw off your rhythm. You should practice playing slowly and quickly.

If a piece of material is proving especially difficult, slow everything down. You may naturally feel inclined to play it fast, but that is only going to make things more difficult for you in the end. Get the hang of the passage at a slow speed, and then gradually up your pace. You will be surprised at how much easier the learning process becomes for you!

To avoid getting bored, try to have some variety in your guitar playing routine. Without variety, practicing the guitar will become boring and will lead to you quitting. Try playing songs that you enjoy and sing along. Play with friends or play in a different location to change things up.

Exercise

Many beginner guitarists become discouraged by the pain, and muscle cramping that often accompanies the first few weeks of learning. Check out the internet, or get a good guitar exercise book, and use your first few minutes of practice each day concentrating on finger exercises. This will help you to build up callouses on your fingers, and strength in your finger muscles to keep them from cramping.

Build up your finger strength. New guitarists may experience finger cramping when they start learning. This is because your fingers arent accustomed to the constant movement. Try doing simple guitar exercises before you play to build up their strength. A couple minutes doing an activity like the caterpillar exercise can help build up your finger muscles.

To increase your stamina playing the guitar, you have to have strong hands and fingers. The caterpillar exercise is one routine that helps you build the same muscles that go into playing the guitar. It involves fretting one note at a time, moving slowly across the neck as you build strength in your finger muscles.

As you can see, there are so many different aspects to guitar playing and so many styles to learn. Good guitar players never stop learning or practicing. Continuing to learn is one of the best things that a musician can do. So take the tips you have learned and put them into play today
